Description:
Upright evergreen or semi-evergreen, tender shrub. Large mid-green maple-like leaves. Bell-shaped dark maroon-red flowers in summer.

Cultivation:
Needs a warm, sheltered, sunny position and moderately fertile, well drained soil. In cold areas best grown in an unheated greenhouse or conservatory.
Pinching back shoots will encourage branching and increase flower production. Cut back long stems in spring, as necessary.

Propagation:
Softwood or semi-ripe cuttings, in spring or summer.

Design and Use Notes:
Conservatories or containers. Also excellent in mild, Mediterranean type gardens. Can be trained against a wall.
